A Failing President

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.  On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics.  We remain a young nation.  But in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.  The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea passed on from generation to generation:  the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

These are the words of our current president. He said these things on the day he took office. However, he has failed at listening to his own words.  On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics. He has failed to end these petty grievances, and false promises. He blames the Bush Administration after almost 2 years in office. He attacks Republicans for disagreeing with him, and doesn't listen to idea's from the right, saying it is failed policy. However, in Obama's victory speech he promised to gain the trust of those who did not vote for him. He said, "to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn - I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too." However when it came to the Tea Party he laughed them off. He has governed from the left. He said "we know that government cant solve every problem" however every step of the way he has tried to make government the answer. When Obama was sworn in his approval rating was above 65% with only 16% disapproving. America was willing to give this president a shot. I was willing to give this president a shot. Now his approval rating stands around 42% and his disapproval rating is around 50%. He has alienated a majority of Americans. even one of his supporters told him she was "exhausted defending you" and waiting for meaningful change. Now, Obama has two years. He can change. He doesn't have to follow the current path he is on. He doesn't have to keep alienating Americans. But really what do we expect, Change? We have already been through that. He won't change. The moves are his to make. These next two years will determine his legacy.

  1. Great post man! You couldn't be more correct, especially when it comes to the blaming of the Bush administration. Its ironic that while he blames them, he's still following through on a number of the same programs. Such as the stimulus bill which is essentially the same one Bush had on his desk for his last six months in office, only, Obama added another $300 Billion to it. Is it working? Maybe, but certainly not on the level that the American people were told. Unemployment is still not under control yet we keep pushing the health care bill above all else.
I so give this admin credit for one thing I did not expect them to do and that was continuing the fight in Afghanistan. Like most conservatives, I expected him to drop everything and pull out within the first year when in fact he has actually tried to take the fight back to the insurgents with the escalated drone strikes as well as the troop surge. But again, he fails to give credit where credit is due, Bush's surge worked in Iraq yet Obama was able to use that for his own "Pull out" party he threw in August when the last combat unit left Iraq.
My biggest fear however is not him being re-elected, which I don't think he will be, but my fear is that the next round of elections will have he fewest amount of participants. He built his campaign and Presidency on soooooo many promises that he has failed to follow through on, that I fear the public will simply stop voting which might actually work to his advantage.
We shall see however, first the Repub's have to get some power back in Washington, which I think they will do next month.
    Again man, good article.
