Flint Hill Prairie Burning Regulations?

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas officials are working to find a way to allow Flint Hill ranchers to continue burning the prairie while reducing the pollution that practice causes in the Kansas City area.
The lawmakers say they want to come up with a solution before federal regulators impose more regulations to help the air quality around Kansas City. Experts say the smoke from the spring prairie fires contributes to the city's ozone pollution problem.
The Kansas City Star reports that the state is considering creating a smoke management plan. Some options include limiting the size of fires, or prohibiting burning on days when high winds blow east.
Sen. Carolyn McGinn, chairwoman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, introduced legislation Friday asking the federal government to grant the Flint Hills an exemption from air quality regulations.

Apparently the EPA wants to stop ranchers from burning the tall grass prairies. in the article above it explains some of the reason why, but I must say, how far can regulations go? This will be something that I will keep an eye on and will have a better opinion on later.
