History

"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we ever have before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong... Somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises... I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started....And an enormous debt to boot." This happens to be one of my favorite quotes. Sounds similar to today doesn't it? Well, this was not from the treasurer of the Bush administration, and certainly not from the Obama administration. The person who said it was Henry Morgenthau Jr. The Secretary of Treasury during the FDR administration, when he was asked about the New Deal. Think about it for a second. This was when money was still backed by silver and gold, not just the word of our government. They could not print off money and spend it, but they were spending. People of today talk about the New Deal as if it was the greatest thing, but the Secretary of the Treasury back then states that it did not work. The "first" New Deal started in 1933, and the Second in 1936. During that time unemployment went up over 20% and did not drop below 15% until after 1940. Yes, FDR did some good things for our country, but I would argue that the New Deal extended the Great depression. Now to today. The Bush administration started with TARP. Bailing out Banks, Auto Industries, and Wall Street, because they were "Too big to fail." The Obama administration continued with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. In which projects like the purchase of 26 ADA picnic tables for Manhattan, KS and other projects are taking place. Not really helping the economy. Also, if you drive along highways that were just repaired you will see a road sign stating that it was paid for by the reinvestment act, The signs, which typically cost between $500 and $1,200 to design, make and install, read: “Putting America to Work” in black letters on an orange background, and “Project Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” in white letters on a green background. These signs were also paid for by the ARRA. We are spending money today without accountability, and it needs to stop. The president said he would only spend what he had, but as he spends more, he blames the prior administration for making him spend that much. It is time for politicians to be held accountable. If you want to know what the Stimulus money is being spent on go to Recovery.org.
